"The Oscars" Dressed Recap/ Special Surprise!

"The Oscars” Dressed Recap/ Special Surprise!
Hey everyone!  I watched the Academy Awards last night and was very, very happy with the results.  And of course if you know me, I’m always looking at what everybody is wearing.  So I thought I would share my opinion on what the nominees and attendants wore for the ceremony.  I will be covering ten randomly chosen dresses. I also have a special surprise at the end so let’s get started!

The always beautiful Angelina Jolie wearing Elie Saab.  I am a big fan of the color and bling on this dress but not so much on the cut.  The top looks a little baggy which doesn’t give Angelina’s figure any justice.  I love the sleeve which I strange because normally I hate sleeves on dressed, or maybe that’s just me.  But I like the sleeves because of the bling at the joint of the elbows and wrist.  Very nice touch.  Overall I do like this dress and I’m sure Angelina would look beautiful in anything you put her in.  I’m so excited to see her as Maleficent. By the way, Brad Pitt is like 50 years old and he still looks great!

Mother Monster graced the Red Carpet… in very subtle attire. Now this is dress is extravagant but is very calm when you compare it to Lady Gaga’s past appearances.   The dress design almost reminds me of a skeleton but it does fit her body nicely.  The color is lovely and I love the scarf that cascades down her back.  Maybe Lady Gaga’s is transitioning into “normal attire”.  But then again, who is to say what is normal?

Jennifer Garner walks down the red carpet in a stunning blue/silver tassel dress.  I love the movement of this dress and give her props for having making shoes and accessories and not trying to color block.  This dress is no doubt inspired by a 1920’s flapper dress.  The only thing I don’t find appealing, just like Angelina’s, is the top.  It’s not very flattering to her bust and the straps are not helping.  But that’s my only problem with it.  Again, the movement looks great.  Every time she turns around to take a picture, the dress will always look great.  Plus, she looks stunning with her hair and makeup.  Overall it’s great attire for the red carpet.

Chrissy Teig's attire for the Oscars was incredible! I absolutely loved for black/pink dress.  Surprisingly she is one of the few Oscar women to go strapless; most of the other women seem to have a contest on who can get the lowest v-neckline.  Anyways, I love the color combo and the fullness of the dress.  She walks so elegantly in it and you have to give the dress props for having pockets!  The design almost reminds me of cherry blossoms flowing in the wind.  This is one of my favorite dresses so far and it is beautifully modeled on a stunning woman.

Kate Hudson cascades down the red carpet in a dashing white formfitting dress.  Have you noticed that a lot of the Oscar attendees are wearing white, cream, or black this year?  I guess you can argue that those are “safe” colors but I love it when people break out into bold and daring colors.  But Kate does look beautiful nonetheless.  I like how the white fabric hugs her curves, and how the train of the dress flows out.  And apparently she is also in the contest on who can get the lowest neckline.  I also like the draping in the back because I think some designers forget that the back is just as important as the front.  The only problem I think of is that it looks a little too long in the front, but I’m sure she can manage it herself.  This dress almost can be considered a “safe” dress but I think with the features it has, it is quite extraordinary.

I admire Emma Watson’s style so much.  I also admire how she can make modesty so attractive.  For her Oscar attire she wore a black dress with a metallic top.  I love the shape of this dress and “shiny” asset.  The strange thing is, I thought at first this dress was more on the safe side, but looking at it again it looks like such a statement on Emma.  I guess her personality is just coming out on the dress.  I also love the accessories and red lipstick.  Emma is such a trendsetter and is easily one of my favorites.  And c’mon who doesn't love her smile?

Jennifer Lawrence seems to be everywhere nowadays.  So it’s no exception that she would be at the Oscars.  I’m sure everybody was waiting in anticipation for her arrival to see what dress will showcase her natural beauty.  And when she stepped out onto the carpet… it was very low key.  Now, Jennifer is beautiful and she did look stunning, but the dress is so plain it doesn't give her any credit.  It’s an okay color on her but there is no wow factor.  I was expecting something big for newcomer star, and was kind of let down.  Maybe she was afraid of getting on the “bad dress” list that she just went the safe route, which is kind of odd seeing she does process a lot of confidence.  Also, I think the dress may be a little too long seeing how she tripped down the carpet, but I could be wrong.  Hopefully we will see Jennifer’s true colors and style in the future.

I give Kerry Washington a lot of credit for attending the Oscars while (very) pregnant.  She looked radiate but the dress did not give her justice.  I love the color but again, it’s on the safe side.  She has the right idea about the cut of the dress since she is with child.  Flowing dresses are a must when you are expecting.  I just wish there was more to it.  Also, the dress looks a little wrinkly on the bottom.  The accessories are nice and I give her extra credit for wearing heels.  Her hair and makeup look great and I guess most of that is because of the maternal glow she has.  Overall, she looks happy and she’s still beautiful.

I really, really, really, want to like Anna Kendrick’s dress.  I really do.  It seems she has the opposite problem of being “safe”.  There is too much going on with this dress.  I mean, I’m all for over the top designs, but only if it all comes together.  The cut to this dress doesn’t come together at all.  I like the top, but I wish they took away the black lining.  The red belt around the waist seems out of place, and the slip on the side makes the dress look off-balance.  I can see what the designer was going for but it just doesn’t really work.  Plus the black fabric seems to weigh it down even more.  I give Anna credit for the red clutch, trying to make it all match, but this was kind of a miss for me.  Anna is as beautiful as always, but she needs a different dress to capture her beauty.

Now for my favorite Oscar dress of the evening… Lupita Nyong’o!  I absolutely love this dress!  The color looks amazing on her and it was so easy to spot her from the audience.  She is the Cinderella of the Oscars!  It’s so flowing and breathtaking.  When she took the stage to receive her award the dress carried her so well.  To me, she is the winner of the Best Dressed.  Lupita Nyong’o, I will always be a fan!

Besides all the pretty dresses, let’s face it, no woman will never look as great in a suit as Ellen does!

So those are my personal opinions on the Oscars.  I hope you enjoyed the ceremony (and yes, I am VERY upset the my baby Leonardo DiCaprio did not win a Oscar but don’t worry Leo, its coming)
Anyways, enjoy the rest of week and I’ll see you next time
Love,
Rachel

Happy (Post) Valentine's Day!/ Recap

Hey everyone!

I hope you had a very happy Valentine's day! I was going to post this earlier but I have been having internet problems so please forgive me.  This has probably been the best Valentine's day I have had so far, for a number of reasons.  The number one reason is of course, because I have a boyfriend.  Yes as clique as it is I was looking forward to Valentine's day for a couple of weeks.  No it's not because I wanted to spend all day with him and have him buy me stuff and take me out to dinner and all that. It's because I am truly happy being with him and I just wanted to express my happiness on Valentine's day. As some of you may know (especially if you follow me on instagram) I am in a 1090 mile long distance relationship.  My boyfriend goes to school in New York and that is were we met last summer, and yes I have not seen him in 6 months but honestly I don't consider him being far away because he is always there when I need him.  On Valentine's day we had a nice, 6 hour, skype date.  So here's how the day went:

Photo: Even a thousand miles apart my Valentine still got me flowers. Thank you Michael Lazarus! <3

Even a thousand miles away my Valentine still managed to send me my favorite flowers.  I was NOT expecting that when I came back to my dorm room

Valentine's Day gift from Mom! I can't believe she knew my favorite Disney Princess. Can't wait to eat ice cream out of this.

And lastly, my Valentine's Day outfit.  Even though I stayed inside talking on the computer I still wanted to look cute so I wore my black with white polka dot dress.  I love the way it sucks in my waist .  I also got it while thifting! Yay thifting!  I have my hair up in a bun which, by the way, have you noticed that a popular hairstyle right now is a braid that goes into the bun. (Frozen inspired maybe?)

Anyways I had a wonderful Valentine's Day and I hope all of you did to.

Love,
Rachel

Important Update/ Be The Match

Hi everyone,
I know this is not what I normally post but I have something important that I wanted to share with you.  First off, I'm sorry for the delay on posting, my uncle recently passed away from liver cancer so I have been in mourning for a couple of days, so I hope you can understand.  Which brings me up to my important message.  As you probably know my father passed away from lung cancer when I was 18 which is part of the reason I started blogging to cope.  Well, when I turned I wanted nothing but to help everybody who was suffering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases.  So on my 18th birthday I registered with Be The Match, a bone marrow donor registry where you can donate healthy bone marrow to a needy patient.  So why am I telling you this?  Because last November, three days before my birthday, I received a call saying I was a match for a cancer patient, who is the same age my father was when he passed away.  I am beyond excited to help this stranger get back to normal life and be with his loved ones again.  I wanted to share this because I am having the procedure soon and I want to take you on this incredible journey with me.  Also, I want to take this opportunity to invite you all to join Be The Match registry.  It's a simple sign up and they walk you through every step of the way.  Can you imagine if everyone that reads my blog registered? Think of all the lives we could potently save!  I understand that a lot of people are not able to registry and that's okay, just help spread the word.  Think of this a belated birthday present to me.  Like the American Cancer Society says, "Let's create a world with less cancer and more birthdays."  Remember, to the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be world.

Love,
Rachel

Welcome to 2014!

Hello Everyone!

We are now in 2014 which means it's that wonderful time of when we all make New Year Resolutions.... some easier than others.  Honestly I don't really believe in making New Year Resolutions because I believe you should try to improve every day and not wait until the beginning of the next year to make a promise to yourself.  But I thought I would throw in a couple just to see if I could keep it.

My New Year Resolution is of course blog more.  I have a lot of more outfit ideas and I am also going to start managing more social medias so go check those out at the links below.  I'm going to try to blog at least once a week. Hopefully with my busy schedule coming up I can still be faithful here.

My own personal resolution is honestly to stop saying, "I'm sorry" all the time.  I have this habit of when something is wrong or if a situation is bad I automatically say I'm sorry even if it has nothing to do with me.  A example would be when I was talking to my boyfriend not too long ago when he was telling me one of my Christmas gifts was coming in the mail soon.  But the problem was that the package wouldn't be delivered until after Christmas and more into mid-January.  He was very upset that it was going to take so long for me to get it and when I saw that he was upset about the situation I automatically said, "I'm so sorry"  He replied with, "Why are you sorry?"  That's when it hit me.  Honestly, I would probably walk into a wall and say I'm sorry.  So I'm trying to work on that and I'm kind of struggling

So those are my resolutions, hopefully you made some reasonable ones.  Below is one of my favorite videos from my favorite film company Wong Fu Productions about resolutions so check that out:

Also I started a instagram and here is my first post with my tinker bell hair:

I hope you all have a wonderful year

Rachel
