Hey everyone! I watched the Academy Awards last night and
was very, very happy with the results.
And of course if you know me, I’m always looking at what everybody is
wearing. So I thought I would share my
opinion on what the nominees and attendants wore for the ceremony. I will be covering ten randomly chosen dresses.
I also have a special surprise at the end so let’s get started!
The always beautiful Angelina Jolie wearing Elie Saab. I am a big fan of the color and bling on this
dress but not so much on the cut. The
top looks a little baggy which doesn’t give Angelina’s figure any justice. I love the sleeve which I strange because
normally I hate sleeves on dressed, or maybe that’s just me. But I like the sleeves because of the bling
at the joint of the elbows and wrist.
Very nice touch. Overall I do
like this dress and I’m sure Angelina would look beautiful in anything you put
her in. I’m so excited to see her as
Maleficent. By the way, Brad Pitt is like 50 years old and he still looks great!
Jennifer Garner walks down the red carpet in a stunning
blue/silver tassel dress. I love the
movement of this dress and give her props for having making shoes and
accessories and not trying to color block.
This dress is no doubt inspired by a 1920’s flapper dress. The only thing I don’t find appealing, just
like Angelina’s, is the top. It’s not
very flattering to her bust and the straps are not helping. But that’s my only problem with it. Again, the movement looks great. Every time she turns around to take a
picture, the dress will always look great.
Plus, she looks stunning with her hair and makeup. Overall it’s great attire for the red carpet.
Chrissy Teig's attire for the Oscars was incredible! I absolutely loved for black/pink dress. Surprisingly she is one of the few Oscar women to go strapless; most of the other women seem to have a contest on who can get the lowest v-neckline. Anyways, I love the color combo and the fullness of the dress. She walks so elegantly in it and you have to give the dress props for having pockets! The design almost reminds me of cherry blossoms flowing in the wind. This is one of my favorite dresses so far and it is beautifully modeled on a stunning woman.
Kate Hudson cascades down the red carpet in a dashing white
formfitting dress. Have you noticed that
a lot of the Oscar attendees are wearing white, cream, or black this year? I guess you can argue that those are “safe”
colors but I love it when people break out into bold and daring colors. But Kate does look beautiful
nonetheless. I like how the white fabric
hugs her curves, and how the train of the dress flows out. And apparently she is also in the contest on
who can get the lowest neckline. I also
like the draping in the back because I think some designers forget that the
back is just as important as the front.
The only problem I think of is that it looks a little too long in the
front, but I’m sure she can manage it herself.
This dress almost can be considered a “safe” dress but I think with the features
it has, it is quite extraordinary.
I give Kerry Washington a lot of credit for attending the
Oscars while (very) pregnant. She looked
radiate but the dress did not give her justice.
I love the color but again, it’s on the safe side. She has the right idea about the cut of the
dress since she is with child. Flowing
dresses are a must when you are expecting.
I just wish there was more to it.
Also, the dress looks a little wrinkly on the bottom. The accessories are nice and I give her extra
credit for wearing heels. Her hair and
makeup look great and I guess most of that is because of the maternal glow she
has. Overall, she looks happy and she’s
still beautiful.
I really, really, really, want to like Anna Kendrick’s
dress. I really do. It seems she has the opposite problem of
being “safe”. There is too much going on
with this dress. I mean, I’m all for
over the top designs, but only if it all comes together. The cut to this dress doesn’t come together
at all. I like the top, but I wish they
took away the black lining. The red belt
around the waist seems out of place, and the slip on the side makes the dress
look off-balance. I can see what the
designer was going for but it just doesn’t really work. Plus the black fabric seems to weigh it down
even more. I give Anna credit for the
red clutch, trying to make it all match, but this was kind of a miss for
me. Anna is as beautiful as always, but
she needs a different dress to capture her beauty.
Now for my favorite Oscar dress of the evening… Lupita Nyong’o! I absolutely love this dress! The color looks amazing on her and it was so
easy to spot her from the audience. She
is the Cinderella of the Oscars! It’s so
flowing and breathtaking. When she took
the stage to receive her award the dress carried her so well. To me, she is the winner of the Best
Dressed. Lupita Nyong’o, I will always
be a fan!
Besides all the pretty dresses, let’s face it, no woman will
never look as great in a suit as Ellen does!
So those are my personal opinions on the Oscars. I hope you enjoyed the ceremony (and yes, I
am VERY upset the my baby Leonardo DiCaprio did not win a Oscar but don’t worry
Leo, its coming)
Anyways, enjoy the rest of week and I’ll see you next time
Love,
Rachel
Oh wait… One more thing
